Legal Metrology — India and the OIML

Legal metrology is the legal control of weights, measures and measuring instruments, harmonised worldwide by the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), a treaty body set up in 1955, and run in India under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009. New Delhi is hosting the 61st meeting of the CIML (International Committee of Legal Metrology), the OIML's decision-making committee, the first time India has done so: it opened on 26 October 2026 and runs to 28 October.
