India's ties with Sri Lanka have moved from crisis lending to a standing development and security partnership, and the first week of August 2026 brought two working-level checks on it: the Foreign Secretary's one-day trip to Colombo on 5 August, then a power ministers' meeting in New Delhi on 7 August. India put roughly USD 4 billion behind Colombo during the 2022 collapse; Prime Minister Modi's April 2025 state visit then converted that into a first defence cooperation pact, a Trincomalee energy hub built with the UAE, and the close of bilateral debt restructuring.
