India-Sri Lanka Relations
India's ties with Sri Lanka now run on a defence track as well as a development one. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh reached Colombo on 8 September 2026 for a three-day visit and called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake the next day. The two sides exchanged MoUs on upgrading six L70 air-defence guns for the Sri Lanka Air Force and on cadet and war-college cooperation, and switched on three Bailey bridges built by Indian defence forces. Dissanayake repeated that his country's soil will not be turned against India's security. Behind that sits the post-2022 reset: about USD 4.1 billion of crisis support, closed debt restructuring, a first defence pact in April 2025 and cyclone relief under Operation Sagar Bandhu.
