Indian Seafarers in the Black Sea
Indian seafarers working on foreign merchant ships have been caught in the attacks on commercial shipping that the Russia-Ukraine war has spread across the Black Sea, and five of them were killed in July 2026. On 7 October 2026 India condemned strikes on three more ships there, one of them the Liberia-flagged Aframax Rio, whose crew of 23, all Indian, was rescued.
