WTO MC14 & the Fisheries Question

The WTO's 14th Ministerial Conference met in Yaounde, Cameroon in late March 2026 and closed with a thin harvest. Ministers let the decades-old ban on tariffing digital trade lapse, yet marked a genuine milestone: the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement, the WTO's first pact built around environmental sustainability, is now in force. India, led by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, championed small fishers, food-security stockholding and a development-first reform of the trade body.
