India took the BRICS chair on 1 January 2026 — its fourth turn at the helm — under a chairship theme built around resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability, a phrase engineered to spell out the bloc's own name. With the group now eleven members strong after Indonesia's 2025 entry, New Delhi is running a packed calendar of ministerials, from a farmer-focused agriculture meeting in Indore to energy, security and women's tracks, all pointed toward a leaders' summit it will host later in the year and pitched around Global South priorities.
