BRICS 2026 - India's Presidency
India chaired BRICS through 2026 - its fourth turn - and closed the year by hosting the 18th summit at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on 12-13 September, in the grouping's twentieth year. Leaders adopted the New Delhi Declaration unanimously on the first day, a 140-paragraph text that Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the mark of a BRICS wider in reach and stronger in purpose. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian attended, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres joining the open session. The chairship logged over 400 meetings in thirty cities, and hands the chair to China for 2027.
