Online Gaming Rules 2026 & OGAI
India's crackdown on real-money gaming moved from statute to enforcement in 2026. Building on the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act passed in August 2025, MeitY notified the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026 — in force from 1 May 2026 — that sort the industry into three legal buckets: banned online money games, permitted online social games, and recognised e-sports. Drawing the lines is a new digital-first regulator, the Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI).
