NATGRID - India's Intelligence Grid

Conceived in the shock after the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) is a secure back-end that lets security agencies cross-search 21 separate government and private databases from a single screen. Long a slow-moving project, it drew fresh scrutiny in late 2025 as it was wired to the National Population Register covering some 119 crore residents and opened up to state police - reviving an old argument about surveillance without a governing law or parliamentary check.
