National Quantum Mission
India's National Quantum Mission, cleared by the Union Cabinet in April 2023 with a Rs 6,003.65 crore purse running to 2030-31, is the country's eight-year bid to join the front rank of quantum powers. It funds work along four fronts - computing, communication, sensing and materials - each anchored at a dedicated hub on an IISc or IIT campus. In April 2026 the mission reported its headline result so far: a 1,000-km quantum-encrypted link built on home-grown technology from Bengaluru startup QNu Labs, roughly halfway to the mission's 2,000-km goal and, officials say, among the longest such deployments anywhere in the world.
