IndiaAI Mission
The IndiaAI Mission is the Centre's roughly Rs 10,372-crore, five-year wager on owning an artificial-intelligence stack rather than renting one. Cleared by the Union Cabinet in March 2024 and steered by MeitY under the slogan 'Making AI in India, and making AI work for India', it is organised around seven pillars that run from cheap GPU compute and a national datasets platform to home-grown foundation models, skilling, startup capital and safety rules. By 2026 it had onboarded more than 38,000 GPUs at subsidised rates and sanctioned 190 projects - yet a parliamentary panel has warned that barely a fraction of the allotted money is being spent and that the promised chips are arriving behind schedule.
