India-SACU Preferential Trade Agreement Talks
India and the Southern African Customs Union signed the Terms of Reference on 12 August 2026 for negotiations towards a Preferential Trade Agreement - India's first Terms-of-Reference signing with the African region, and with the world's oldest customs union. The document sets out what will be bargained over, across eight chapters, and how; by itself it lowers no duty. It was finalised days earlier at the fourth India-Namibia Joint Trade Committee, which also recorded goods trade of US$ 592.94 million in 2025-26. Talks are expected to open within a month of the signing and to conclude within a year.
