India-Maldives Relations
India-Maldives ties have swung from a low to a high in barely two years, and by mid-2026 the economic track was moving fastest. President Mohamed Muizzu won Maldives' 2023 election partly on an 'India Out' plank and pushed to remove Indian military personnel, but a deepening foreign-exchange crisis and a cooling China bet forced a reset. Prime Minister Modi's July 2025 state visit - as guest of honour for the archipelago's 60th Independence Day - brought fresh credit, debt relief, a UPI rollout and the launch of free-trade talks; those talks cleared their first negotiating round in July 2026, with bilateral trade climbing past USD 771 million. It cements Maldives' place in India's 'Neighbourhood First' and Indian Ocean maritime-security calculus.

- Saudi-Türkiye-Pakistan Pact & IndiaAdded the first sign of the pact becoming machinery: Türkiye's defence ministry said on 13 August 2026 that the three states will build political and military mechanisms under it - their military chiefs, foreign ministers and defence ministers - and are planning joint exercises and closer defence-industry cooperation. This is a stated Turkish intention, not a constituted body, and no Indian reaction is on record.
- The West Asia War & India's StakesAdded the August 2026 fight over who controls the Strait of Hormuz: President Trump said the United States has total control of it, while Iran's joint military command says no ship may cross without Tehran's permission and the Pentagon says its blockade of Iranian ports can run indefinitely. The June interim ceasefire collapsed, so the passage carrying much of India's oil and cooking gas is still not open.
