India–Japan Economic Partnership
India and Japan are trying to turn a decade-old trust into a much bigger economic engine: a JPY 10 trillion target for Japanese private investment in India, a review of their 2011 trade pact, and new tracks on semiconductors, AI and startups. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal took India's biggest-ever business delegation to Japan (over 200 members, 24–27 August 2026) to push all three.

Boundary content restructured to the reader contract.
- India-Canada ResetAdded the finance track: Nirmala Sitharaman heads to Toronto for the first India-Canada Economic and Financial Dialogue with François-Philippe Champagne (25 Aug–2 Sep 2026 Canada-USA visit, including the G20 finance ministers' meeting at Asheville). - India-Uzbekistan RelationsPrime Minister Modi makes a State Visit to Tashkent on 29-30 August 2026, his fourth trip to Uzbekistan, for delegation-level talks with President Mirziyoyev on trade, defence, energy, digital connectivity and education, before heading to the SCO summit in Bishkek.
- Saudi-Türkiye-Pakistan Pact & IndiaAdded the first sign of the pact becoming machinery: Türkiye's defence ministry said on 13 August 2026 that the three states will build political and military mechanisms under it - their military chiefs, foreign ministers and defence ministers - and are planning joint exercises and closer defence-industry cooperation. This is a stated Turkish intention, not a constituted body, and no Indian reaction is on record.
- The West Asia War & India's StakesAdded the August 2026 fight over who controls the Strait of Hormuz: President Trump said the United States has total control of it, while Iran's joint military command says no ship may cross without Tehran's permission and the Pentagon says its blockade of Iranian ports can run indefinitely. The June interim ceasefire collapsed, so the passage carrying much of India's oil and cooking gas is still not open.
- India-SACU Preferential Trade Agreement TalksIndia has opened a trade negotiation with Southern Africa. India and the Southern African Customs Union signed Terms of Reference on 12 August 2026 for talks towards a Preferential Trade Agreement covering eight chapters - India's first Terms-of-Reference signing with the African region, and with the world's oldest customs union. Talks should start within a month of signing and finish within a year. The text was settled days earlier at the fourth India-Namibia Joint Trade Committee, which put bilateral goods trade at US$ 592.94 million in 2025-26, up from US$ 568.40 million.
