Rural Cooperative Banks
Rural cooperative banks are the state cooperative banks (StCBs) and district central cooperative banks (DCCBs) that sit above village Primary Agricultural Credit Societies in India's three-tier cooperative credit chain, working under RBI directions and NABARD supervision. They are in the news because, through 2025 and early 2026, the RBI and NABARD eased their branch, business and lending rules and gave them an ombudsman and a governance index.
