Minimum Support Prices (MSP) — How India Sets Them
The minimum support price (MSP) is the rate the Union government announces each marketing season for 22 mandated crops, on the advice of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), so that growers are not left to a falling market. It is in the news because the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on 30 September 2026 raised the MSPs of all six mandated rabi crops for Marketing Season 2027-28, taking wheat to ₹2,610 a quintal.
