Kavach - Train Collision Protection

Kavach is India's home-grown Automatic Train Protection shield: when a driver overruns a signal or two trains close on the same line, it warns the loco pilot and, if ignored, brakes the train itself. Its most advanced build - Version 4.0, cleared by the RDSO and rated to SIL-4 - is now being laid across the busiest trunk corridors. On 30 January 2026 the railways switched it on across 472.3 route km in a single day, its biggest one-day rollout yet, pushing total 4.0 coverage past 1,300 route km spread over five zones.
