Kavach - Train Collision Protection
Kavach is India's home-grown Automatic Train Protection shield. When a driver overruns a signal, or two trains close on the same line, it warns the loco pilot and - if that warning is ignored - brakes the train itself. The newest build, Version 4.0, is being laid along the busiest trunk corridors: it was running on 2,633 route km as on 31 July 2026, and on 12 August 2026 Indian Railways sanctioned another 660 route km of it on North Eastern Railway's Izzatnagar Division, costed at Rs 295 crore.

Latest update
Added the 12 August 2026 sanction of Version 4.0 over 660 route km on North Eastern Railway's Izzatnagar Division, costed at Rs 295 crore under the umbrella work that pairs Kavach with an LTE data backbone. Corrected the coverage figure this card had carried since January: Version 4.0 was live on 2,633 route km as on 31 July 2026, not 1,306.3 route km. The whole note is rebuilt for the current reader layout, with a nine-stat capsule.
