India's Fleet Support Ships

Fleet Support Ships (FSS) are large replenishment vessels that Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, is building for the Indian Navy under a five-ship order worth about ₹19,000 crore, signed in August 2023. They are in the news because Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh launched the first of them, Surya (FSS-1), on 6 October 2026 and laid the keel of the fifth and final ship the same day.
