DRDO's Emerging Technologies - Hypersonics, Lasers & High-Altitude Systems
DRDO, the defence ministry's research arm, is developing four frontier systems tracked on this card: a scramjet engine for hypersonic cruise missiles, a 30-kilowatt anti-drone laser, a stratospheric surveillance airship and a parachute for paratrooper drops at extreme altitude. In October 2026 the airship, called the High-Altitude Platform, climbed to 21 km on a flight trial, and the new Advanced High-Altitude Parachute made its first live jump at Nyoma.
