CMPS: India's Push to Build Shipping Containers
The Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme (CMPS) is a ₹10,000 crore programme to give India its own globally competitive industry for building shipping containers and to cut the country's reliance on imported boxes. It is in the news because the Union Cabinet cleared it on 28 October 2026, with support running up to FY 2039-40 through cheaper loans, per-container operating aid and shared testing facilities.
