Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool — India's Own Marine Cover
The Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool (BMIP) is India's first home-grown marine insurance pool: Indian insurers jointly cover ships and cargo, with a ₹12,980 crore sovereign guarantee behind them. It is in the news after a 27 September 2026 government backgrounder reported 3,000 cargo war-risk policies by 7 September and war-risk premiums down about 35–40 percent since the West Asia conflict peaked.
