Modified UDAN (UDAN 2.0)
The Union Cabinet has cleared a ten-year, Rs.28,840-crore relaunch of the regional-flying scheme UDAN, the Modified UDAN, popularly UDAN 2.0, to run from 2026-27 to 2035-36. The package promises 100 new airports built from disused airstrips, 200 modern helipads, viability-gap subsidies to keep thin regional routes flying, and a small push to buy Indian-made aircraft. It builds on nine years in which the original UDAN put 663 routes and 95 airports on the map and flew more than 162 lakh passengers.
