SIPRI Arms Transfers & Military Expenditure
Two SIPRI fact sheets set the 2026 defence scoreboard. Over 2021-25 India was the world's second-largest importer of major arms, behind war-hit Ukraine, with Russia still its top supplier but its share sliding to 40 percent. A companion report released in April 2026 ranks India the fifth-largest military spender in 2025 at 92.1 billion dollars, up one place after overtaking the United Kingdom.
