India's Ramsar Sites & Wetlands
India crossed a symbolic threshold in June 2026, notching up its 100th Ramsar site, a wetland of international importance under the 1971 global treaty. The century was reached when Uttar Pradesh's Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary was listed on World Environment Day, capping a fast half-year that added four wetlands and followed India's maiden resolution at the Ramsar summit in Zimbabwe the previous year.
