Project Cheetah
Project Cheetah is India's programme to bring back the cheetah, declared extinct in the country in 1952, by moving African founders to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh; the National Tiger Conservation Authority has run it since 17 September 2022. It is in the news because KJP21, a female born in India, delivered five cubs at Kuno on 5 October 2026, the first with a Botswanan father, lifting the national count to 60, of whom 41 were born in India.
