PMAY-Urban — India's City Housing Mission
India's urban housing mission has passed a double milestone: more than 1.25 crore houses sanctioned across PMAY-Urban and its successor PMAY-U 2.0, and more than 1 crore of them finished and handed over. A crore of those homes are registered to women. The mission belongs to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and is entirely separate from rural PMAY-Gramin, which has its own ministry and its own, much larger, count. On 6 August 2026 the scheme's sanctioning committee cleared another 2.09 lakh houses, pushing cumulative PMAY-U 2.0 sanctions past 18.38 lakh.
