Released in October 2025, the UNDP-OPHI Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2025 - Overlapping Hardships: Poverty and Climate Hazards - counts 1.1 billion people as multidimensionally poor across 109 countries, and for the first time maps how many of them are also exposed to climate shocks. India stands out for a steep fall in deprivation, from 55.1 percent of its people poor in 2005-06 to 16.4 percent by 2019-21.
