Gita & Natyashastra in UNESCO's Memory of the World

On 17 April 2025, a day before World Heritage Day, UNESCO added manuscripts of the Bhagavad Gita and Bharata Muni's Natyashastra to its Memory of the World Register — the global roll of documentary heritage, distinct from the World Heritage List of places. Both manuscripts are kept at Pune's Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute. The twin entries carried India to 14 on the international register, in a round of 74 new collections from 72 countries that lifted the worldwide total to 570.
