Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0

Jal Jeevan Mission, launched on 15 August 2019 to bring a tap connection to every rural home, has covered roughly four in five households and is now being reshaped. On 10 March 2026 the Union Cabinet cleared JJM 2.0, extending the mission to December 2028 and pivoting it from laying pipes to running a dependable, eventually round-the-clock, water utility. The restructured outlay rises to Rs 8.69 lakh crore, but a parliamentary panel has cautioned that many taps risk running dry unless the sources feeding them are made sustainable.
