GOBARdhan and the Compressed Biogas Framework
GOBARdhan is a Rs 23,731 crore Central Sector Scheme of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas that, from FY 2026-27 to FY 2035-36, seeks to multiply India's compressed biogas (CBG) output nearly ten-fold through a purchase mandate, a fixed producer price, capital grants, pipeline aid, loan guarantees and a challenge fund. In force since 1 September 2026, it was formally launched on 1 October 2026, when Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri released a scheme handbook and a single online portal for applications.
