MoSPI's 'Women and Men in India 2025', released on 29 April 2026, is the 27th edition of the government's gender-data compendium - a single volume that pulls together how the two sexes compare across population, education, health, work and safety. Its headline is cautious optimism: the sex ratio at birth is climbing, women now out-enrol men in higher education, and rural female workforce participation has surged past 45%. A companion NITI Aayog study, 'From Borrowers to Builders', adds the money dimension - women hold a Rs 76 lakh crore credit book, yet most of the roughly 45 crore credit-eligible women still stand outside formal lending.
