DAY-NRLM — Rural Livelihoods Mission
DAY-NRLM is the Centre's rural livelihoods programme: it gathers poor rural households into women's Self-Help Groups, links those groups to bank credit, and keeps backing them until incomes rise. Fifteen years in, it counts upwards of 10 crore women across more than 93 lakh groups, with bank lending to them past ₹13.67 lakh crore. From September 2026 the same cadre starts selling retirement security, under an agreement with the pension regulator.

Two September moves widen the mission's brief. Its seventh Gender Samvaad, on 11 September 2026, drew over 6 lakh participants on women's leadership in livelihoods. A day short of a week later the department signed with PFRDA to raise 'Pension Sakhis', who will take pension awareness and National Pension System enrolment to rural doorsteps through the SHG network.
