Gold Hallmarking and the HUID Code
Hallmarking is the official certification of how much gold or silver a jewellery article contains; in India the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) runs it, and for gold jewellery it has been compulsory in notified districts since June 2021. A PIB backgrounder of 5 November 2026 put the count of gold articles carrying a unique HUID code above 65 crore, with mandatory coverage now reaching 392 districts.
