India's Late Birth and Death Registration Law
The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Act, 2026 changes how India's 1969 registration law treats births and deaths reported late, sending entries more than two years overdue to a judicial magistrate. It came into force on 1 October 2026, after Parliament passed it in the Monsoon Session and the President assented in August.
